School Council
The School Council is made up of twelve children, two from each year group, one to six. They are elected by their class mates at the start of the year and attend weekly meetings. The council meets for thirty minutes each Thursday, with the agenda being formed from issues that the children want to discuss, or from ones where the Head teacher wishes to consult them on. Minutes are taken by the Deputy Head, although the meeting is chaired by one of the older children. The chair is elected to stand for one term. The minutes are sent back to classes a day later, so that the class representatives can discuss the issues with the whole class.
Areas that have been addressed this year include:
- raising awareness of waste minimisation,
- looking at how to make our school lunches healthier,
- writing a letter of complaint regarding a hot lunch and receiving a refund which was spent on providing a huge fruit salad for the whole school,
- taking part in the Children's Parliament at Shire Hall in Taunton.
